Ultimate Superhero Costume And Prop Auction To Be Held Next Week

Jennifer Tormo - Celebrity News Service
Casablancas, CA (CNS) - Movie fanatics will have the opportunity to get their hands on iconic movie props, like the original T.I.E. Fighter miniature from "Star Wars: A New Hope," in a prop auction next week.

The auction, touted as "the ultimate superhero costume and prop auction," will be held on July 31 and Aug. 1 by memorabilia dealer Profiles in History.

"The good part of what we do is that most of our business is outside of California," Profiles in History owner, Joe Maddalena, tells Celebrity News Service exclusively. "Of the 1,000 people we expect to bid, only 100 of these will actually show up and bid in person."

Maddalena tells CNS that the rest of the bidders will make their offers via phone or internet. Internet bidding will take place on eBay and LiveAuctioneers.com.

In addition to the "Star Wars" T.I.E. Fighter, other props include a full-scale animatronic male Velociraptor from "Jurassic Park III," a 'Winkie' spear from "The Wizard of Oz," a hero prop shotgun from "Terminator 2: Judgment Day," a 'Jack Skellington' filming miniature house from "The Nightmare Before Christmas," and endless other items.

Costumes will also be auctioned. Ben Affleck's complete "Daredevil" costume is expected to fetch between $50,000 to $70,000. Other costumes include Tobey Maguire's 'Spider-Man' and Kirsten Dunst's 'Mary Jane' costumes from "Spider-Man" and "Spider-Man 2," the Grail Cup from "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" and more.

Maddalena tells CNS that he expects the "Star Wars" T.I.E. Fighter to attract the most attention.

"The T.I.E. Fighter is probably the greatest prop we've ever had," he says. "There's no single better piece you can get than that."

The T.I.E. Fighter is listed as likely to receive between $150,000 and $200,000, but Maddalena thinks it could bring in as much as $300,000 to $400,000.

Not all of the props will be that expensive, though. Maddalena anticipates that anyone could afford to buy something at next week's auction.

"Our client base is a cross-section of everybody. Celebrities, C.E.O.s, average people. Rich people, poor people. It's literally everyone," he says. "I always encourage people to at least look, download the catalog on our Web site. Not everything is expensive."

Smaller props can go for $2,000 to $3,000. He adds that the props make great gifts, since recipients are sure to not have the item already.

"This is pop culture," Maddalena says of the props and costumes. "This is being looked at as an alternative form of art. Something like the T.I.E. Fighter is iconic."

I was secretly hoping it would be the infamous pink too-tight blouse, the one she wore for the upside-down kiss.
