Bastard

I've read about it in the V magazine interview, thought a new topic would be nice.
This winter, Dunst wrapped Bastard, a short film she produced, directed, and plans to submit to the Tribecca Film Festival. It stars her friends Lukas Haas, Juno Temple, and Joel David Moore, but Dunst remains tight-lipped about its subject matter, saying only that the film is "a two thousand-year-old religious tale told in a modern way." It was filmed in the desert, and a baby was involved, but don't expect The Passion of the Christ, Basterd is decidedly less floral. "I didn't want to shoot the desert in a desert-y way, but more in a Woody Allen way." the actress explaineds."And we took a lot of inspiration from Paris, Texas."

Tribeca Festival Announces Short Films
“The New Tenants,” which won the Academy Award for live action short earlier this month, will be among the 47 movies to be shown in the Tribeca Film Festival’s short film lineup, along with works directed by Kirsten Dunst, Domenica Scorsese and others, the festival’s organizers said on Thursday. “The New Tenants,” written by David Rakoff (“Fraud,” “Don’t Get Too Comfortable”) and directed by Joachim Back, tells the darkly comic story of two men who meet their unusual neighbors as they move into a New York apartment; it will play on the festival’s Hard Core program.
Other films announced include “Bastard,” written and directed by Ms. Dunst (“Spider-Man”), about a couple in a desert motel;
“Roots in Water,” directed by Ms. Scorsese and written by Richard Nelson, about two siblings dealing with the death of their mother; and “A .45 At 50th,” a documentary directed by Joshua Bell and John Cromwell, in which the actor James Cromwell (“The Queen”) recounts his experience with the Black Panther Party. This year’s Tribeca Film Festival runs April 21 to May 2.

Rodarte’s Kate and Laura Mulleavy have costumed actors for Bastard, a Tribeca Film Festival competition short directed by one of their best friends, Kirsten Dunst. “Kate and Laura pretty much styled and chose costumes on the set,” the actress and director told The Daily. “The colors for the film required a very specific color palette and the girls also had a very special input in Juno Temple’s look because her character is so quirky. It was just so incredible to work with both of them in this manner.” The Bastard premieres on April 23 at the Festival. “I’m definitely flying in,” said Dunst, who’s currently shooting Upside Down in Montreal. “It’s a Friday, so it works out beautifully for a great weekend.”

I just read the same thing. I read that it will be one of 17 shorts in competition. Good week for Miss Dunst without a doubt. This and melancholia... Although im sad that Penelope dropped out of the movie, she is amazing! But im happy we'll get to see kirsten (hopefully he wont destroy her emotionally as he does with the rest of his actresses)

Kirsten Dunst, James Franco to close Critics' Week
Short films by the two actors will bring this year’s Critics Week sidebar to a close on May 20.
Short films from actors-turned directors Kirsten Dunst and James Franco will close the Cannes’ Critics Week sidebar on May 20.
Dunst’s Bastard (pictured), which is her second short, is also screening this week at the Tribeca Film Festival. The film is about a young couple in crisis who find their way to a desert motel where three odd men plan to meet them for questionable reasons. Brian Geraghty, Juno Temple, Lukas Haas and Joel David Moore star.

review:
Her film, Bastard, runs only six minutes long, and stars a handful of familiar faces (i.e. Brian Geraghty, Juno Temple, Lukas Haas). Though the plot was a bit confusing (a desert, then a motel, then Juno covered in blood?), it certainly looked pretty, and I was definitely left wanting more.

Its quite sure Kirsten will be in Cannes, fonts tell that she will attend at the " amfAR's Cinema Against Aids event" on 20th may.
Found at
http://www.tonic.com/article/a-good-guide-to-the-cannes-film-festival/
Leading the way is amfAR's Cinema Against Aids event, which is now in its 17th year. The black-tie event has become a firm fixture on the Cannes party circuit ever since Elizabeth Taylor took to the stage in 1993 to host the organization's first ever auction and dinner during the festival. In recent years Sharon Stone has taken up the post and in 2009, the actress and AIDS campaigner helped to raise $4.5 million for the organization's lifesaving AIDS research.
This year, the Hollywood heavyweights will be summoned once again to the glamorous Hotel du Cap in Antibes for a cocktail party, dinner and auction to take place on May 20. And there's sure to be some surprises! At last year's event, Sharon Stone cajoled Twilight's Robert Pattinson into auctioning off kisses, well two kisses to be exact (it started off with the promise of a solitary peck on the cheek for a female fan but Stone can be quite persuasive) for a staggering $28,000 per kiss. Josh Hartnett offered to strip (strangely no-takers) and Bill Clinton auctioned off his personal saxophone for a staggering $130,000 (see above).
Due to Stone's filming commitments in Thailand, she will be handing over the reigns to Scottish actor and loyal amfAR supporter, Alan Cumming this year while celebs such as Emily Blunt, Diane Kruger, Kirsten Dunst, Marion Cotillard and Benicio Del Toro will be in the audience, with Mary J. Blige performing. Well, no one said philanthropy couldn't be fun, right? "This year's Cinema Against AIDS Cannes will be as star-studded as ever and will be filled with many exciting surprises," amfAR's CEO Kevin Robert Frost tells Tonic. "We are on track to raise significant funds for our life-saving AIDS research programs, thanks largely to the support of our sponsors, our event chairs and the international film community."

Dunst, Close and Franco to Screen Films in 16th Palm Springs ShortFest
314 films are on tap for the 16th Palm Springs International ShortFest, taking place June 22 - 28 in the desert resort city. Fifty-two themed programs will divide the fest, which will screen 58 world premieres and 55 North American debuts.
Among this year’s roster, with work from 43 countries, are films by three actors. Glenn Close co-directs and narrates the World Premiere documentary “Pax” (USA) with Sarah Harvey. Kirsten Dunst directs “Bastard” (USA) starring Brian Geraghty, Juno Temple, Lukas Haas and Joel David Moore. James Franco directs three shorts including “The Clerk’s Tale” (USA), “The Feast of Stephen “(USA) and “Herbert White” (USA) starring Michael Shannon. Franco will attend the screening of his three shorts and participate in an on-stage conversation with Variety‘s Peter Bart on Saturday, June 26 at 3:00 p.m.
The opening night screening on June 22 will include live-action and animated comedies in a program dubbed, “Opening Night: For Laughing Out Loud.” Throughout the festival the selected short films are organized into 52 programs covering a variety of genres, including thrillers, horror, romance, fantasy animation, documentaries and comedies - and themes such as family, war, art, sex, love, memories, dreams, couples, travel, sports, crime, philosophy, animals, motherhood, the Jewish experience, LGBT shorts and French Language shorts. There will also be a special focus on Australia titled, “On Top Down Under.”
Other shorts include AnnaLynne McCord in “Amexica” (Mexico/USA); Annie Leibovitz in the documentary “Annie Leibovitz ‘So, There You Go’” (USA); Julian Sands in “The Good Life” (USA); Vincent D’Onofrio and Kevin Corrigan in “The New Tenants” (Denmark/USA); Brendan Gleeson in “Noreen” (Ireland); Alicia Witt and David Morse in “The Pond” (USA); Jesse Eisenberg in “Some Boys Don’t Leave” (USA); Matthew Rhys in “Think Tank” (USA); and John Mahoney and Lili Taylor in “Tired of Being Funny” (USA). Lending their voices to shorts, Isabella Rossellini narrates the live action “Flat Love” (Spain/USA); Helena Bonham-Carter, Robbie Coltrane, John Hurt and Tom Wilkinson in the animated “The Gruffalo” (UK); Meryl Streep, Forest Whitaker and Spike Jonze in the animated “Higglety Pigglety Pop! Or There Must Be More To Life” (Canada/USA), and Ian McKellan and Joseph Fiennes in the animated “A Lost and Found Box of Human Sensation” (Germany).
A jury of three industry professionals will screen this year’s slate of short films selected for competition across 17 categories, including Best Animation, Best Documentary, Best Live Action, Best of Festival, and the Future Filmmaker Award, with a total of $90,000 in money and production prizes, including $14,000 in cash grants. First place winners in four categories will automatically become eligible for consideration by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) for a possible Academy Award nomination. Over the course of its first 15 years, the festival has presented 68 films that have gone on to receive Academy Award nominations. Winners will be announced on Sunday, June 27 at a Closing Night screening and reception.
“While it’s remarkable how many established actors are now actively working in the short film field, ShortFest’s primary purpose - apart from providing great entertainment for moviegoers - is to showcase and support exceptional new talent emerging in the creative field, and this year’s event features a huge number of innovative new directors, writers, actors and animators emerging in America and worldwide,” commented the festival’s executive director Darryl Macdonald in a statement. “The animated shorts are particularly strong this year, and the live action work is much more polished.”

Short 'n' sweet: a guide to 2010's HollyShorts Film Festival
Kirsten Dunst directs Bastard: The talented (but apparently troubled) Dunst hasn't popped up in much lately, so it's delightful to read that the actress has directed this film starring The Hurt Locker's Brian Geraghty. Bastard screens August 7 at 8:30 p.m.
